They always look scottish is why...deeply stereotypical if you want to know the truth of it...the myths and legends of dwarves have always been loosely connected to the celtic races...who were traditionally perceived as small, hairy and often miners....

The axe on the other hand is from a completely different root in terms of the legends...

I have noticed that too. Fantasy shows seem to have a pecking order. Dwarves are Scottish, Halfling (Hobbits) are Irish, Elves seem to be French/German and Humans seem to be very English or Norwegian.

Probably due to that in folklore---dwarves were born, created and existed in the mountains--and Scotland is a mountainous area.

Maybe you mean an Irish accent, as leprechauns are supposed to come from Ireland.
