I am desparately trying to find effective alternative treatments for my father, so please have some basic decency not to be point-gaming.

I have had multiple chelation treatments, although not for a heart condition so I can't speak on that.

My suggestion would be to research it thoroughly, the pros and the cons, find a qualified experienced chelation-literate MD, and ask lots of questions.

Check out www.acam.org
Also try to find a copy of Forty Something Forever by Harold and Arlene Brecher.
I have talked to several persons who swear that EDTA chelation was the best health decision they ever made.

You did not specify what condition your father has, I assume he is on standard medicines and perhaps aspirin therapy? For cardiac arrythmia, I use a combination of Angelica (Angelica archangelica) and Valerian (Valerian officinalis). I was on a perscription but could no longer afford it. This does seem to help. ALWAYS let doctors know what meds (herbal or otherwise) you are taking as they could have a reaction with any other meds.
