Because male pattern baldness is a sex-linked trait. The pattern of inheritance is similar to that of color blindness. Male pattern baldness is caused by a gene located on the X chromosome. Recall that males are XY and females of XX. If a male receive a baldness gene on the X chromosome his mother passed on to him, he will go bald because that is his only X chromosome. If a female receives a baldness gene on one X chromosome, she usually will not go bald because in most cases her second X chromosome supplies genes to maintain a healthy head of hair. She would go bald only in the relatively rare situation that both of her X chromosomes have the baldness gene.

Usually baldness is associated with testosterone - women don't have very much. The more testosterone in a man the more likely he is to lose his hair. I guess this is why men always want sex more too. I asked the doctor if I could have a little testosterone he said you husband would love me for the sex but hate that you would grow a beard.

Baldness is caused by androgens (mainly, testosterone).
Androgens are synthesized both male and female, but they are converted to Estrogens in ovary. Estrogens don't have any effects on baldness, so females rarely grew bald.

Actually their are many bald women. You know you've seen them at the grocery store. Many are just good at hiding it. For guys its easier they just shave it. The bald women are out their but it is more prevalent in men. It is a chromosome issue. Genetics are flawed somewhere.

Females are carriers for the trait, but they're mostly NOT bald! The trait is passed on to the males. We're cursed!
