but it will run him 800 bucks or so...another mechanic said he can do it himself by adding marvel's mystery oil to his engine and then driving it for about ten miles, then getting an oil change....any suggestions or advice?

the car has 53,000 miles on it...has had an oil change every 3,000 and the last three times he's taken it in for an oil change, two different car places have said he needs a flush. i dont see how it can need a flush either since he takes really good care of the car.

tell your friend to go to auto zone and get some motor flush and put it in and let it idle for around 10 minutes or so,then drin it out and change the oil and filter, but if the engine is too dirty then he will have to drop the oil pan and clean it out, because the loose dirt that doesnt drain out will clog up the oil pump.

Not enough information to give you an answer really. I fail to see how a 3 year old car could need it, unless it's very high mileage or certain maintenance items have been neglected. You say "mechanics" -- plural. So I assume it was in to more than one mechanic for some particular problem, and that is what was suggested by all of them. What was the problem it was taken in for in the first place?
If you want to give us more information..."My friend has a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer with 152,000 miles on the odometer. It has not had an oil change since he bought it new, and it overheats" or whatever the truth is, perhaps someone can venture a guess and give you some helpful information. If you don't, well, essentially you have asked the "my car doesn't run, why not?" type question.

Why does he need a engine flush in the first place for? In my opinion if you change the oil regularly that is good enough, a engine flush just seems to be a waist of money, typical scamming mechanic, (not all of them, but a high % ).I drive a delivery van for a living and it has 485.000 k , the oil gets changed every 10,000 and i drive it like i stole it, it runs great, don't understand a engine flush.

You didn't say what the problem was. If this car is a 2003 model it's too new to be having any real type of problem. What he may be experiencing is a problem with sludge buildup. There are solution that are sold in auto places that help break up engine sludge. Plus, don't use cheap oil.

They would rather sell an 800 oil change not a 25 dollar one.. the only flush is your money going away.

Please do no longer purchase a used Audi...Audi's and Volx's have substantial mechanical complications and becuase they are German vehicles they are going to fee an arm and a leg to fix. Mitsubishi Lancers are gruesome vehicles to me and that i'd probable bypass for like a toyota celica, nissan maxima, or honda accord. you'll get a quite lovable one for round $5000. yet hello, because the Mits Lance is a 4 cylinder, it is going to likely be large on gas...it really is for sensible

I am not a car mechanic, I am driving for 40 years but I 've never heared such thing,
First thing I would contact those they care for their product and then I would call for information any other reputable big name service that they would care about their name such as Canadian Tire etc. http://www.mitsubishimotors.ca

the only time you need a eng. flush is when you havent maintained ur oil changes,,,but you still take chances of loosening particals and stopping up the oil strainer for the oil pump i would change the oil more often and make sure it is at operating temp.(hot)
