Hi! I am diabetic, so I was induced at 39 weeks... Started pitocin, and things progressed fairly well for about 8 hrs. Then it all tapered off, and no more progress. They broke my water, stripped my membranes, and then overnight the doctor inserted some kind of medicine on a little sponge (forget the name). Then everything took off. However, in the end, I was in labor for 32 hours and had a c-section!! So - pitocin did not work well for me, and I believe it was the little sponge thing that worked. Stripping membranes doesn't always induce labor - just helps it progress a little faster. You just have to remember that everyone is different, and you may have completely different results. Everyone I talked to before I had my baby who had pitocin said it was great, labor was fast, no problems. Ha! Talk to your doctor about it, she will be able to explain everything much better!

All they gave me was a pitocin drip...I've never heard of the other. Pitocin helped induce it w/i 12 hours, that's when I finally went into labor (1st child). I'd try the stripping of membranes just to compare and see which works best.

My doctor stripped my membranes prior to induction, in the hopes that it wouldn naturally induce me. It did not work. It is not really painful, just slightly uncomfortable. If you are not even due til next week, don't start stressing. Other ways to (possibly) induce labor are to have sex, nipple stimulation, some people swear that eating spicy food will do it, and my doctor told me that walking could help. If you do end up having to have a c-section, it's ok. The important thing is that you and the baby are both delivered healthy.

I've only had pitocin. I've also heard that if they strip membranes in office it could be pretty painful.
I do regret being induced though, as my body wasn't actualy ready for labor, and ended up with a section.

membranes being stripped is more safer but may not always work. Pitocin causes very strong contractions and can cause stress on your baby.

I prefer the drug free one..... or what worked for me, was the night before they were going to induce me, i used my breastpump... of course nothing came out, but i went into labor 5 hours later!!!!
Pump one side for 5 minutes, then the other side for 5 minutes, stop for 10 minutes, then do it over again, I did that for an hour.....
Wouldn't hurt to try, there is no drugs or stripping of anything.....
Good luck!

Get the Pitocin and ask for your epidural if you choose to have one that's what I did and labor was a breeze it seemed to be quick and painless.

I had pitocin and I had my water broke. It was perfectly fine to me because I was anxious to see my baby.
