I have a girlfriend that paints birds on Christmas ornaments. Since my husband and I are avid "birders", she has given us presents of them over the years, often commemorating our vacation or a special sighting during the year. Now, we have enough to decorate our small tree exclusively with them -- we love it!

My family has an ornament exchange every year and we get a variety of ornaments that way. No theme, really. My tree will have ornaments dating from 1980 to the present. When I put it up in a few weeks.

I like the traditional multicolored lights and ornaments. For me this appears more cheerful. Our tree has ornaments that has been handed down from 3 generations. My great-grandma started this family tradition. When she got older and started having Christmas with her grown children, she divided the ornaments amongst her children. And from then on we have done this with our children. I will pass my share on when my children have me in their home for Christmas instead of the other way around. We like it this way. Seems a little more sentimental. We admire the tree and reminisce the years of past. And enjoy the present decorations and ornaments as well. Once in a while an ornament will catch our eye and we will take a mental trip into the past as we remember it.

When I was a kid I dreamed of having a "mall tree"...you know, perfectly color coordinated and beautiful...for a few years I did, all the ornaments were purple, gold and green and the lights were white, purple and green..it was about 8 feet tall....the tree with the kids homemade ornaments and the ornaments we bought for each of them each year was only 3 feet tall...then circumstances in my life caused me to look at the big picture and put my priorities in order...we know have a tree that has multi-colored lights(I hate em, but my hub and kids love em), and all the kids ornaments all over it...and i think it's the most beautiful tree in the world

My tree is filled with sentimental ornaments. They each have to mean something and i try to pick a couple of new ones out each year. The color theme is not your traditional colors... it's pink, lime green, baby blue, silver, all these really different pastel colors... i thought it would be pretty. I also have some carebear ornaments that i got last year on sale... i love them... i grew up with carebears, so they are sentimental to me. :)

I try to change my tree theme each year. This year my tree has traditional colorful ornaments with some angels thrown in and a beautiful angel tree topper.

Mine gets squashed back into the box with all of the old ornaments and lights on it after Christmas.
The following year, what has gotten broken gets dumped and whatever is on sale gets hung on it. After Christmas, right back into the box. Assembly is easy- Just straighten it's bent branches and plug it in.
