humans arent a part of the natural food chain and their bodies do not need meat to survive there is no sense in eating meat. many many reasons why you should not. in today's society factory farms torture and murder innocent animals so that we can eat them dog, cow, chicken or anything it doesnt matter humans should not eat meat. its bad for your body (unless your choice of death is the number one killer - heart problems) you shouldnt be eating meat and unless you buy your meat from special butchers who can gauarantee that the animal lived a good and torture free life and was slaughtered humanely then you are most likely geting meat from a cruel factory farm or from inhumane situations. dont eat meat.

p.s. you can get omega 3 fatty acids from flax seed , its also in becel butter which has no animals products in it

yes, it's fair to eat other animals. If animals eat each other in the wild why wouldn't we, we are animals too.

Humans are omnivorous, meaning that we evolved to eat both meat and plants. Our teeth are designed for chewing and eating both meat and plants, so eating meat is in our nature, and it is fair to eat animals.

What isn't fair is the meat industries practices when it comes to raising and killing these animals. So it is understandable for someone to want to become vegetarian because of this, or for the "healthier lifestyle" (it's healthier because plants have less calories).

For the second part of the question, people thousands of years ago decided what we would eat and what would become pets. I can't explain why people picked the wild ancestors of some animals to keep as pets, and the wild ancestors of others to eat, because that choice was made back when people couldn't write down their explanation for us to know. Scientists can only guess at why.

These days, the ancestors of our original pets and livestock have been bred to be almost perfect livestock and pets (though some cultures will eat dogs and guinea pigs).

The reason you can ask this question is because of your brain capacity. That in itself is the result of evolution and only made possible by eating meat.

If our ancestors would not have eaten (much) meat, we would not have this dilemma, we would not be able to discuss this. (n.b. I am not saying that any meat-eating species has evolved into intelligent beings on our level; I am saying herbivores won't ever reach it).

Without meat, we would be like other animals, less intelligent than dolphins and apes. With only a little amount of meat, we would be like other apes (also eating meat when they can get it). So yes, it is is fair to eat other animals.

Who says you can't eat pets? (Or: who says you can't pet food?)

Is it fair? We are omnivores as a species. Omnivores eat both plants and animals. Other omnivores and carnavores in this world don't hesitate to eat each other, so why should we be any different?

Domesticated animals like dogs and cats became domesticated because they are easy to train. Over thousands of years of training and breeding, these animals have evolved to the point that most of their common training has become instinct. We didn't "decide" which animals we could keep as pets, they just happen to be the most logical pets because of their temperment and personality. Basically, they are the ones that have always been least likely to cause humans harm and most likely to do what we want them to do.

Back to the eating of animals, it is very well documented that animals do not have "feelings" in the same way humans do. They function on instinct. This is a common misconception among dog and cat owners too. When you come home and your dog has crapped the floor, he may look like he "feels sorry" or "knows what he did," but what is really happening is that he sees the human's displeasure and is triggering a mild "fight or flight" mechanism in case your irritation escalates into more severe anger.

As for why we eat certain animals, that is also just by pure convenience. Animals like cows, chickens, turkeys, and pigs are especially rich in clean, edible meat that is both nutricious and plentiful. Animals like dogs and cats just simply don't have much clean meat on them!! Also, protein is a major necessity in a human's diet. Without protein, humans can not produce muscle, and we eventually will die. Most people get their protein from the meat of cows, chickens, turkeys, and pigs. If you choose not to eat animals, your only other choice for protein is beans. If you do not eat animals, you pretty much have to eat at least 1/2 pound of beans products EVERY DAY. Do you think man was meant to constantly eat beans, or have the variety of available meats?

Also, interestingly enough, many scientists speculate that animals such as cows, chickens, and some pigs would be extinct if we didn't eat them. Think about it for a second, what would a cow be like if we didn't eat it (and same for chickens and some pigs). They are pretty stupid animals that basically stay in one place and have tons of yummy meat but pretty much no protection mechanisms from predators. If cows were left alone to be wild animals, don't you think predators such as wolves and bears would just love to kill and eat them? How would they get away? Same with chickens and pigs, which are smaller and thus have even more predators.

Left alone without our intervention, all of these animals would just be preyed upon until they were extinct. It is because we eat them that they survive as species.

That's perhaps a personal thing. I mean like Koreans and Chinese people eat dogs but they're kept as pets as well. Culture and religion probably plays a part in deciding which animals can be eaten or not.

Survival instinct. Lions eat there cubs fearing they will be competition later. For humans it is a choice that their brain allows them to make , what can they survive on? what does society do and what does society permit. For all other species it is how they evolved to survive.
We are smart enough to get nutrition without eating any kind of meat , but how do you get omega 3 fatty acids without eating fish? why does our body need that.?we evolved eating meat, fish and fruits. now we need it.
You decide what animal you want to eat , cooked or uncooked?
Different parts of the world have different culinary customs, no body is wrong or unfair. This is Biology.

Here dogs and cats aren't sold in pet stores; you buy them in shelters. But here the rabbits do live in quite a small display. It saves money but the rabbit is still able to move around but it can't get any excercise. I'm happy that the pet shops here don't buy from mills. They buy animals from people who's pets gave birth and need some place to give their babies away.

Ok, here goes Humans will eat just about anything, but take into account region food source /resources. Usual rule of thumb, eat herbivores and not carnivores. So guess Carnivores pets Herbivores food.

You could any animal you desire... even those classified as endangered species or even people. This is legal as long as you have substantial evidence that you did not murder these creatures/people and that they were dead long before you had a chance to munch on them. This, of course, can raise a few eyebrows and turn a lot of stomachs because of social norms.
