I like to buy the adorable baby bathtubs and fill them with practical items like mentioned above. Also, I always include something for the mommy in the package. This summer when a friend had a baby, I bought the bathtub and filled it with wipes, bottles, clothing (not just newborn), lotions, shampoos, diapers, blankets, etc. I also included little cans of coca-cola and red vines (the mom's favorites!) I finished it off with the plastic cellophane stuff you can buy from any craft store to make it look like a gift basket. Most of them can be heated using a blow dryer to get that shrink wrapped look. On top, a cute bow.

At one baby shower I went to, a woman handed the mom-to-be a large gift bag with a short length of clothesline hanging out. As she pulled on the clothes line, out came outfit after outfit attached to the line with clothespins. The mom-to-be had a great time seeing what would pop out next, and it was a really creative way to give several gifts in one. :-)

Diapers, diapers and more diapers......some baby wipes too! It is always nice to get practical gifts that you will really use. Remember to get different sizes that way as the babies get older she will still have a supply.

I like to buy a large basket, line it with a few receiving blankets, then stuff it full of washclothes, baby shampoo, baby wash, diaper cream, baby wipes, bottles, pacifiers, rattles, a bottle brush, etc.

I always buy practical, like diapers, wipes, clothes, bibs, and blankies. Believe, I have had 2 kids, and 1 grand-daughter, and they really appreciate the help.

It's really your choice; however, if you plan on working there for a while I think you should buy her a small gift and a card.

You could give her a diaper cake. It looks like a three tier cake made up of diapers and other baby items. Then you give them diapers, wipes, rattles, and other baby items.
