for the horse, you can put in sugar, a carrot and hay (although the latter is seldom used, because it's very inconvenient )
for Sinterklaas you give him a drawing and a wish-list and of course you have to sing to him before you go to sleep.

A carrot for the horse, and a nice drawing for Sinterklaas. I remember we once put a thermos with hot coco, when winter was extremely cold and we feared that Sinterklaas might be freezing on the roof.
By the way: no use to wait for presents if you did not sing at the chimney.

and don't forget the bowl of water for the horse. That's what we used to give him anyway... carrot and water.... and be rewarded with a sweet chocolate treat in the morning... oh the good old days...
