My husband and I live in a suburb outside of metro Detroit. All of our family live in Cleveland, Ohio. I am due on January 15. My question is do you think my Dr. would consider an induction. The drive is three hours and if it's snowing we could end up stranded.
We have two little ones we will need help with or I could end up birthing alone while he stays with our children. I just wondered if there were any who thought the Dr. might induce,
Weight won't be an issue my son weighed 9lb4oz and my daughter weighed 8lb13oz. This baby is big already too. If my Dr. says no should i try to find one in the office that will? I am very anxious about this situation. I don't want to end up in the delivery room alone. I'm talking bout a set day close to the due date.

Talk to him about inducing on your due date. Tell him about the distance issue and how you need to plan for family to watch your other children. Since it would be the due date and not weeks early, he might induce you. It never hurts to try!

I'm not sure if the doctor will induce, unless you are at least a week past the due date. Even though weight isn't an issue, you need to give the baby time for everything to develop.

I think you need to think outside the box for this one....Could one of your family members come and stay with you when you are near your due date? Or, is there anyone out there who would be willing to be "on call" to help watch your other kids while hubby takes you to the hospital (even if it was at 3 in the morning?) Possibly a neighbor or a friend?

You might also want to call the hospital and see what other mothers to be do in these situations?

I completely understand your situation -- but, things will work out. Its good you are planning now so you don't have to worry in January. Still talk to the doctor and see what he/she says, but I wouldn't switch just because of this. Good luck - things will work out fine.

Unless you have a compelling reason, in all likelihood the doctor will not induce you. EVERYBODY is uncomfortable in the last weeks of pregnancy. There are complications that can come from inductions. It is not a benign thing. All that said, there are reasons, even non-medical ones to induce. Some women are in pain so bad they are unable to sleep. That's actually a good reason to be induced. If you are exhausted even before labor starts, you are going to need a good deal more intervention. If that is your situation, nag your doctor. However, you should be sure that you have a good Bishop's score or it is likely induction will fail.

After being so far along, most doctors will not take new patients after you have been seeing your dr. Only reasons doctors induce is medical reasons, or something is wrong, or sometimes because of weight of the baby. But you will not be induced before 38 weeks.

I would just explain your situation to the doctor and see if he will induce...because you're right...you don't want to take the risk of being stranded in the snow or something like that...and ya know- people are induced early all the time and their babies turn out just fine...

You will have to talk to your doctor, but yes, some will induce for those reasons. Some won't it is hard to say.

Good luck!

I don't think they will induce just because you are planning on be far away...i think you need to plan better what you need to do because I don't think your dr is gonna agree on that.
