I want to cut my overgrown hedges! Can I do it now? The weather is really nice but I dont want to kill them. I know that there are certian time of the year that you have to cut certian plants. Please help they are out of hand!

Yes, you can prune them now. And for future reference you can prune them or "shape them" anytime in FL. The only exception being if you were in the middle of a drought--then you'd want to wait until you get some rains. So prune away.

Where in Florida do you live? I am from the Miami area and we cut when it suits us. If you are from the sub-tropics, then your growing season is all year long. If you are from North Florida, then you need to consider that it will get cold and that spring is the best time for new growth. So, you would prune in late winter. Most hedges are very hearty and will take pruning any time of the year. It's just that they will not be as pretty as quickly if you prune them in the winter as they will if you prune them in the spring.

As a nursery owner in S Florida. I would say it depends on hedge type, as well as where in Florida you are. N Fl is different then S. Fl.
as we dont have the frost concerens that parts of state do. In general trim them back reshape them and then lightly fertilize them. Feed again in spring then trim again.

The best time is fall. Now is a good time.Do not reduce by clipping more than half its size.
