If you F-ed up big enough for her to leave for 6 months you better count your lucky stars that she's willing to give you a shot.
If you want to show your dedication to her and your commitment to the relationship, nothing says "I'm in this" like spending some bucks on some really beautiful stuff.
It doesn't have to be the biggest or the best, but YOUR best effort and a heartfelt letter explaining how you know what you did wrong and how you want to move forward and how you are trying.
Back it up man.....show that you are serious.

Why not book a romantic weekend away for the two of you? A country hotel with a spa, book some treatments for her, then dinner in the hotel or in a nearby restaurant. Or if you want to go a bit further afield, a weekend in Paris or New York?

I always think the best gift is one that shows you've been paying attention to her. She might say she needs something or maybe see something and say how nice it is. Try to pick up on these things. But if she doesnt do this within 2 weeks before christmas buy jewelry. Women love shiny things. I don't know why but we do or atleast i do.

I would forego the diamonds and candy routine. Try giving her something special and unique.
It's the thought that counts and if you get her a really thoughful gift, something that only she could truly appreciate, she will just love it!
I don't know what to suggest because I don't know her likes and dislikes.

fav perfume and some sparkly jewellery, earrings or ring (not necessarily engagement before you start panicking but) ladies like nice jewellery, well i do or something which shows you've put thought into it, something which means alot but doesn't necessarily cost a fortune. that's what women like, they like to know the man has thought about it and really means it.
