But if a white guy calls them that they are labled as a racist immediately, and if a celebrity is heckled by an unruly member of the audience and if the celebrity speaks out against that unruly heckler the entire black nation wants blood?

Ignorance. I live in a community with a large black population and I never hear educated blacks use the word. The whole "term of endearment" is BS. Why would anyone refer to themselves in a negative way? Its a learned response from a household that is probably poor and uneducated. The truth is that there are many such households in our country.

Within the race, some people consider it okay. Personally, I don't think it's okay for anyone to say, given the historical meaning behind it.

It's no different from a child being teased. If your child was called a bunch of foul names, I highly doubt you'd be defending the right to free speech of the person who's doing the teasing. You'd want that person chastised for making your child feel bad.

Of course, you're alluding to the event that recently occured with Michael Richards. As a "professional" comedian with years of experience, he should have known how to tastefully deal with the hecklers. At the same time, the hecklers could have silently left if they were not pleased with the show.

I don't use that word unless I want to insult someone.

Please, If the hecklers had been asian and MR started ranting about chinks and slant eyes you think he'd have gotten off?????

Racist rants just are not acceptable. Even Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle save their racism to make actual points not just rant like a baby. He should have yelled out "SECURITY" instead of racist words.

Michael Richards called the two audience members the N word and brought up lynching....he used the N word out of anger and hate.....it's that simple....the black nation....whatever that means to you does not want blood...Michael Richards could have shown more restraint....he is a comedian...they get heckled......he should get over it.......

I think that they shouldn't say it myself and I'm black. Now, I'm from the hood and suburbs so I relate to everything pretty much. I grew half of my childhood there and here. Anyway, I don't find it offensive when a black person says it. However, when a white person says it...I get pissed so prevent all of that from occurring I tell black people not to say it either. That way I'll never have to hear an excuse from a white person saying I said it because the black guy said it too.

N word doesn't have the same meaning when blacks says it to blacks. ( in most instances)

white can't basically because we still have resentment toward whites. because of all the pain you've caused us in the past and some cases the present.

the black mind. it's like a battered wife.
we are dealing with pains and frustrations you couldn't imagine.
and we are a young culture, trying to blend in with a culture the was a enemy to us for most of our history.

when whites use it, they use it to belittle us.
when we use it, it nothing one way or the other (most times)
i personally try not to use it

who said whites can't use it, say it if you want to, just be prepared to deal with the consequences. just like the comic

what if the heckler was Jewish and the comic said 50 years ago we would have put you in the gas chamber. Sounds like he agrees with Hitler doesn't. You don't think the Jewish community would be outraged?

the way I see it, black people don't call themselves the "N word"...they say a variation of that, which is taken a totally different way.
A white person saying that would be laughed at, at the very least.
Mr. Richards did not say that, however, and completely stepped over the line.
I'd say his career's pretty much done.

i don't call my black people the "N" word ever. but that's between us. when a white guy wants to do it, it's more like an insult. it's like playing russian roulette. the "N" word really is just slang for *****. maybe, if it wasn't for slavery, it wouldn't be so bad. so, if you want to use the "N" word, go right ahead and try your luck. but I'd advise against it, some of us are quite sensitive.

Do you know how many times I have wondered that myself?! My friend was listening to Mary J. Blige (I think that's who it was) the other day and she had the 'n' word in her lyrics and it's completely acceptable. However, if ashlee simpson, for example, were to do that, we know what would happen.

What if a white guy sings a rap song with the N word at a karaoke bar?
