my familyhas a xmas party every year. Evry year we play the same game, it goes on throughout the whole night.
The Candy Cane Game
Every one wears a little paper candy cane pinned to their shirt. As long as you are wearing a candy cane, you can not use the word Christmas (which is hard to do at a christmas party). if someone catches you saying the word, they get your candy cane. This goes on all night, at the end of the night the person with the most candy canes pinned to their shirt wins, and there can be a small prize, or not one at all. It really is a fun game.

the 'white elephant game' is always fun for my family.

[edit] White Elephant Gift Exchange

The gift should be wrapped or sealed in a gift bag before arriving to the party. Gift bags can be used.
As you arrive to the Holiday party, the gift should be placed in the center of the designated area, this will help hide who brought which gift.

[edit] Rules

[edit] Items needed

Each participant will provide a wrapped gift.....
Upon arriving to the dinner, you will place your gift in the designated gift area.
You will be a given number that will determine your place in the gift exchange.

[edit] How to Play

1. First turn: The guest with the #1 will be first. That person chooses a gift from the gift pile, opens the gift, and sits with the "live" gift for everyone to see.

2. Second turn: The guest with the #2 will go next. That person has two choices: steal a gift from a previous gift-opener (you cannot steal from the person who just stole from you) or choose a wrapped gift from the gift pile. If they choose to steal someone's opened gift, then that someone can in turn have two choices: steal a gift from a previous gift-opener or choose from the pile. If there is no previous person to steal a gift from, they must choose from the pile.

3. A gift is considered "deceased" once it has been stolen by the same person 3 times, and, once "deceased", it cannot be stolen again. Basically, if you want it you have to steal it 3 times, unless of course no one else steals it from you and you end up with once the game is complete. Whomever has a "deceased" gift is the final keeper of that gift and the gift is no longer "available".

4. Turns repeat until all guests have a gift, than the #1 goes again. If #1 is happy with what they have it stops. If #1 steals, it repeats until one person no longer steals.
