Is LH present during and after ovulation or is it just before?

The LH hormone surge happens to cause ovulation. Without that hormone your ovaries will not release an egg.

The surge happens 24-36 hours before your egg is ready to be fertalized, and the egg is only viable for that 24-36 hour period of time.
