I'd say that China is our largest threat. They are booming over there. All of these years that we have been at a trade deficit with them is catching up.

Our government has let other countries have the upper hand for too long. We have worried more about other countries than we have our own for too long and now it's going to bite us in the a**.

If you neglet your house and spend all of your time fixing your neighbors...eventually yours will fall down.

I would have to say the chances of China surpassing the US as the world economic superpower are high. They are experiencing the largest migration in recorded history. The poor farmers are leaving their lifestyle and moving to the cities. This will only continue as they continue to produce and export more than the US. Even with their 'communism" in place, their economy will surpass our own. As for EU, I agree with some of the other posters, they have too much in-fighting to really pull together and dominate. India has entirely too much poverty. But the recent trend of sending American Jobs to India will only diminish that statistic. SO, Americans should be forewarned that our economy, though it might be stabilizing, will be surpassed...SOON!!

a few decades ago, some famous politician or economist (can't remember who, sorry...) once took a look at the situation in China, the demographics, their resources, etc. and concluded that if China ever adopted Democracy, "They'd win."

I believe that.

The situation in India is probably becoming similar. I doubt the European Union will ever achieve superpower status. They're too fractious politically.

The EU will never be able to as they have a more stagnant economy and social support system than we do. China, of the three, is the most likely to challenge for global economic and military supremacy. And based on how we have flinched in the war in Iraq and the War on Terror in general, that time is coming soon.

The Chinese will overtake the Americans very soon. The Indians have too much poverty to be a foreseeable threat, and the EU is too busy arguing amongst the member states to be taken seriously. I predicted the rise of the Chinese years ago, and in the next few years a major power shift is in store, imho.

All three together may well achieve that status, but they are like 3 angles of a triangle which will never come together

Very good. Our country just elected a bunch of appeasers. When you allow people to walk all over you, they will.
