I need to suggest an "innovation" here at work. They're driving me nuts. Please help me come up with an innovation/suggestion that will improve staff morale. Thanks in advance.

This is just another mind fart by a suit looking to justify his/her salary by implementing reforms and pressuring people to come up with ideas in part because they can't come up with their own, and they always feel they have to fix something even if it's not broken, again, to justify their salary and look busy, and very likely take credit for any good answers they do get. Maybe moral's bad because they got some idiot pressuring them for something. Just tell them what they want to hear, it's hard to say specifically from the general description you gave.

Reasons to allow drinking at work

The below are valid reasons as to why drinking should be allowed at work. If you use them wisely, you may even be able to convince your boss into allowing alcohol.

1. It's an incentive to show up.

2. It reduces stress.

3. It leads to more honest communications.

4. It reduces complaints about low pay.

5. It cuts down on time off because you can work with a hangover.

6. Employees tell management what they think, not what management wants to hear.

7. It helps save on heating costs in the winter.

8. It encourages carpooling.

9. Increases job satisfaction because if you have a bad job you don't care.

10. It eliminates vacations because people would rather come to work.

11. It makes fellow employees look better.

12. It makes the cafeteria food taste better.

13. Bosses are more likely to hand out raises when they are wasted.

14. Salary negotiations are a lot more profitable.

15. If something does something stupid on the job, it will be quickly forgotten.

Please provide more details of your situation. What type of business? Who's pressuring you. Innovation for what, exactly? To make employees morale improve? If you provide more details, I'll amend my answer to help you.

OK. thanks for the extra details. I like the sick bank idea shown below. I would also program social activities for employee bonding, or maybe install a work out room with shower facilities so folks can exercise and relieve stress. Come up with employee incentive programs to earn extra time off or extra pay for performance. Have monthly "brainstorming" meetings where employees get together and suggest improvements in work processes, and make sure management attends and ACTS on the good ideas, etc.

Why not introduce a sick bank system, if you don't have one already.
The company pays 5 days wages for each employee into a "bank". If that employer is off sick for a day, he/she gets paid a days money from this "bank". This can happen up to 5 times before the money runs out, however, if that employee manages the whole year without any absence they are granted the "bank" money as a bonus.
This should increase productivity.

Have a group activity where you all get up from your workstations at a set time and do aerobics to Jane Fonda's Workout or Richard Simmons. All you need is a tape deck

It's not so much for the exercise as it is for a time that
you can all blow off steam in unison. PUMP UP THE VOLUME!

Plus it will get your endorphines flowing and will give all of you the ability to concentrate for the rest of the day.

YOU HAVE TO BREAK THROUGH THE ATMOSPHERE OF YOUR WORKPLACE and make it a happier place to go.

I think taking time out or when it is quiet and playing a game like bingo or something everycouple of days whilst in work can really help morale becasue you get to interact with your collegues in a different way from usual.
