floor shifter release when brake is applied, not working, does anyone know the most likely place to look before i dislocate my back climbing under the dash?

Ah Floor shifter, Remove the console and with the key on Press the brake like you are going into drive. do you see a mechanical release in the shifter. If not then there is a Cable that is connected tot he pedal or a solenoid. I am not sure, don't have an olds in the shop. get a haynes to be sure and check for a bad switch. This is just a safety item to prevent shifting W/O the brake applied. It is usually in the console not under the dash
