shadow: the dark silhouette of an object that is formed when an object blocks light ,and usually the shadow has the SAME appearance as the object .. so you can say
a persons shadow
a buildings shadow
a cats shadow
a cars shadow

shade
is basically the same thing , only it is used when you are not talking about a specific object
(shadows have a shape, shades do not )
like
the boys rested in the shade from the blazing sun

here you are not talking about a shape, only that its blocked from the light .so it could be a shade from a building, tree , tent or whatever .

shade is also used to mean an area thats slightly darker ,
like
his face was covered with a blue shade
(so another difference is shades have colour while shadows dont)

shades are also sheets that are put infront of windows to keep too much light from coming in
(like curtains)
for example
the teacher closed all the shades before starting the datashow

another easy rule to know the difference is
if it can move , then its a shadow

a shadow is reviled when light reflects off an object like in the sentience ; "when I was walking down the street I saw my shadow on the ground. When I walked further, I saw the large shadow of a tree. I walked over to the tree, which I thought because it's shadow was so large would provide much shade, I found the tree was only a sapling and could only provide shade for small bugs." I hope that wasn't to encryptive. A shadow provides no shade, but everything has a shadow. you can see a tree's shadow on the ground or on a wall but it is the tree that provides the shade, not the shadow. (This would be so much easier to explain visually.)

Shadow is the darker image which the reflection of light leaves. Shade is where you stand or sit away from the sun.

eg: human's shadows can sometimes be creepy at night, get some rest under the shade of a tree.

hope this helps
