Don't these people realize posting this rhetoric does absolutely nothing to further their cause?People trying to change politics should simply write their congressman or legislators. Is it possible that these people think that posting their opinion on politics and illegal immigration on Yahoo! Answers are under the impression that it makes a difference?

Yes it's like getting it out of your system.
I wouldn't call it rhetoric, more like a modern Cassandra-syndrome.
Cassandra in Greek legend, you recall, was condemned to know the future but to be disbelieved when she foretold it. Hence the agony of foreknowledge combined with the impotence to do anything about it.

By writing of the problems that affect us all it spreads knowledge and awareness of the problems. The opinion of the masses is what changes society as a whole. To suppress the flow of ideas and opinion is to suppress the freedom that so many fought and died for to give us and to preserve that right. If only one person is awakened from their complacent slumber and ventures out of their "comfort zone" and sees reality then writing about the problems of this country/world is worth it. I for one don't mind. What you call "rhetoric" I call revelations of
thought.

Why did Bob Dylan write Blowing in the wind? that song asks tons of rhetorical questions but it inspired people.

maybe they are not posting these question to further their cause, maybe they just want to know what other people think about their cause. Then again we never really know who is behind the scenes thats asking the question. Could be good old George himself.
