Best bet is try gettin it checked elsewhere, may only be a popped fuse or power unit blown, etc. Ask around for reliable repair centre or just check online in your area (or ask on here?) then if same answer then check your warranty, you may be entitled to replacement due to the equipment failure (assuming you didn't spill anything inside lol)
As for the motherboard, then yes, if it is about 1 1/2 years old, may be a no longer manufactured model, but surely there is another motherbord available which is compatible with your chipset!!
Good Luck!!!

its entirely possible that he just doesn't have the parts needed, or that his supplier is out of stock. Depending on the age of the PC and manufacture date its conceivable that the motherboard has become outdated and difficult to find. Do a little research on the board and see if you can find it somewhere, if you find it stocked either at a retail or Internet site let the guy know and if He stills gives you the "its gonna take a few weeks" run around have him order the parts from where you found them....its still under warranty so he'll have to eat the cost.

Hi. If the board has to be changed to a SKT 775 the the processor will have to be changed as the new 775 processor is not compatible with the 478 board

It all depends on what actually caused it to crash in the 1st place, not everything is down to the motherboard, it can also quite easily be the power pack or the graphics cards or memory. Had you updated anything recently or upgraded? If you do need a new motherboard yours isnt that difficult to find or that expensive, have a look here... http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=116600&_LOC=UK
so no they arnt that rare especially when they have 85 in stock :-)
Hope this helps

once the motherboard errors it usually means you have to get a new one and if you can't find a new mother board of the same kind then you have to change the cpu to make the new universal mother board compatible.

Order your own bit's online, cut out that middle man and you will find you will save £50-100 easily. They are rip off's. I ordered a DVD writer drive from play.com, it was £25 I went to a shop in my village and they was trying to sell me off £45 haha. Goof's they are all in it for the money!!! £20 i'll never trust a shop in my life. Microdirect.co.uk or scan.co.uk or overclockers.co.uk you can't go wrong there :)
