I was at L&D yesterday for 8 hours. Contractions coming every three minutes and 1-2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. Baby is big-measuring at 36 weeks. They said there is no way I am going to make it to my EDD in Jan. When do you think baby will come? They gave me turpeline to stop contractions--but gave me nothing for home and they didn't put me on bedrest. So I guess I am on my own. Any ideas or thoughts on when baby will come? This is my 4th.

I know baby will come when ready, but I was kind of doing a poll to see what people thought and who would get closest.

i must agree that your baby will be born before your EDD. i don't understand why you weren't put on bed rest. that would definitely help, but I suppose that would be hard for you considering you have other children. Have your doctors tested you for gestational diabetes. That may explain why your precious little one is big-measuring. What ever the case, your baby will come when its ready and as long as everything is all right with your baby, just think, you could have another little one to spend Christmas day with. Yippee!

Just because you're dilated....doesn't mean ANYTHING! I walked around dilated to 1 for about three weeks and 2 cm for over a month! Then the contractions.....my friend had early contractions, they gave her the same thing, and she was still 4 days PAST her due date when she delivered. Plus, women have big babies! My daughter was 8lbs 14 ounces! All of my neices and nephews were over 9 lbs. I don't think they should have told you that you would NOT make it to your due date because everyone is different! Take it easy, don't travel anywhere extremely far away, don't stress (even though it's hard not to for the holidays) and that baby will come when it's darn good and ready, no matter what anyone tells you! Good Luck!
P.S.
My best guess....I would say you have at least 4 weeks left, if not more.

Hope for the best and that your baby stays put as long as possible. Premature birth is not good for babies. The longer the baby takes to come the stronger baby will be. Strong babies are a hundred times better than cutting pregnancy short. You have made it this far so hope your baby waits at the very least a few more weeks.

If they didn't restrict your activity they are pretty confident that you won't deliver for a few more weeks. Did they give you steroid shots for the baby's lungs? If they didn't I would ask for them at the next regular checkup just in case and take it easy. Good luck and all the best.

Babies come when they're ready. Sounds like your little one will be here before you know it. Take it easy and make sure you're ready for the baby!

if this is your 4th pregnancy, I would think you would know by now, they come when they are ready! there is only so much estimating due date, if you feel like it carry on with your normal routine, and when the time comes he/she will let you know they are ready! best of luck!
