If the doctor was your doctor throughout your pregnancy, be sure to tell him/her of the outstanding care you received. You could start your letter with a joke, perhaps, like this:
"My husband and I just wanted to thank you for doing all of the dirty work after I delivered our new baby..."
It would be nice to include a photo of the baby, too.
And I would definitely hand-write the letter...typed is too impersonal for such a personal relationship!!

Just speak from the heart and be thankful that you have a wonderful doctor to think. My Dr with my son turned out to be a creep and the dr that helped me with my twins almost killed them
