I made a good friend at work and we had a lot of fun. he was also very flirtatious and since i liked him it was all great, but then i called him and he completely blew me off and has been acting really weirdly since then - he normally gives me a ride home so i was stranded without a lift. now he basically ignores me, and when he does give us a ride he's pretty moody, and I am COMPLETELY confused. how can i get things back to how they were before?

I called him to ask if he was coming into work or if I'd have to find another way of getting home but i think somehow i've crossed some boundary and i don't know how to take it back.

when you called him you must have crossed some unspoken boundary. you invaded his personal life. work is one thing, home life is another. whats weird is that he gave you his number to call, so then why the blow off? maybe he thinks things are moving to quickly in the wrong direction.

It sounds to me as if he is playing a game, how did you get to work before he started to offer a lift, can you go back and do it again,h as he some one at home that he doesm't want to answer the phone and find you on the end. You wasn't going out with him which is a good thing, so just go back to how it was to start with and i don't think it's going any where so give up that thought now

i need some more details i think before i can give you an accurate opinion
why did you call him? to ask him out? and he blew you out? in which case he may not know how to handle the situation so is just sticking his head in the sand and hopes it will go away.
in this case email/IM him inviting him for a coffee and then bring it up gently saying you miss your friendship, he was a someone you came to rely on, blah, blah
if you just called him for a chat and he was rude and he's been rude ever since, then i'm afraid the only way to find out is to ask - follow the scenario above.
good luck

Perhaps you should just informally drop him a line and say you didn't mean to appear over pushy and if he's uncomomfortable with it, then you're sorry and you didn't mean any harm. Perhaps he's worried from a work aspect, or more likely, he's got a partner and doesn't want things to get outta hand.

Maybe some one else has said something to him or upset him, and you just called at the wrong moment, but now he associates you with that bad moment. we can all get odd at times, sit down and talk to him, ask what is wrong, and ask if you can do anything to make things right(within reason), hope all goes well.

What can you do? I advice to get him out of your mind, you would not like to socialise with someone you cannot rely on. I had the same experience and it is lack of respect. Just move on, he is not worth to be thought of, just move on.

Maybe he just doesn't want you to depend on him all the time to for transportation. He might feel taken advantage of.
