There's no such thing as a typical schedule for a homeschooler. We're too varied a group. But you really shouldn't go worrying about how long your child would be working AT school. Any homeschooler will tell you that it does NOT does NOT does NOT need to take nearly that long. At that age, three hours, maybe four should be fine, but you do not need to be working one on one with her the entire time. There is no reason why you can't present a lesson to her while the little ones play with an educational toy or read/look at books, then let her work independently on it while you help the little ones, then let all of them do a unit study together or something of the like. Just don't stress over it.

It used to be 5 years of age. But, now that there are 2-years of pre-kindergarten - and children can be held back in these grades - the child could be as old as 6 or 7 years! I personally don't agree with this system. I feel that this is the cause of many children hating school. Their first introduction is at an age that is far to young and a child needs more one on one attention at the early stages of life. These classes are NOT a requirement, and if a mother can avoid these, I strongly recommend it.I would rather see a child run,hop and skip t school, then "dragged" by their mother.

Generally a child has to turn 6 by September 1st to start 1st grade. So, they are typically 6 years old, or at least very nearly 6, when they start. And any child born after September 1st will turn 7 either during the school year or the following summer.

Typically 1st graders are 6 for their first year. It may depend on your schools enrollment cut-off date, but some of them may be 7.

It actually varies by location, as most states have age guidelines for entering first grade and/or kindergarten. Six years is very typical. In some states younger kids can attend kindergarten, and on occasion some students may have been "held back" by either their parents or school officials and may be as old as 7 or even 8.
