Both are good and both have advantages and drawbacks.
Stockings with suspenders are more elegant, sophisticated and a good deal sexier, where hold-ups are probably more convenient for everyday wear.
You have a much better choice of stockings if you go the suspenders route, but you will need the right 'support equipment', i.e. a real suspender belt (not a bedroom toy) with metal clasps and preferably six straps, which will fit comfortably over your hips and not strangle your waist.
Properly attached suspenders will keep your stockings up much better than the elastic/silicon bands of hold-ups and won't aggravate your veins or lead to uncomfortable skin rashes.
Getting your suspenders attached really well is an art in itself, and it can be useful to enlist the help of a room-mate, partner, sister... Most husbands/boyfriends would be only to pleased to help with this little chore!
In the end, it all comes down to choice - old-fashioned, sexy and high-class or modernity rules - you pay your money, you take your choice. Personally? Stockings with suspenders any day - and night!

I always wear the really sheer kind with suspenders. Hold ups are just too much like pantyhose with all the elastic. They don't have that exotic feeling real stockings with suspenders do. You have to have that little tug on the stockings to really enjoy wearing them.

Real stockings with a garter belt (suspenders) are by far more comfortable and sexier than the hold ups which have more elastic in them and fit more like pantyhose than real stockings.

Stockings with a garter belt(suspenders) are the best. I love wearing them they are both sexy and comfortable. Hold ups are too thick and not sheer like real stockings. The elastic or lace tops show through your clothes and are uncomfortable like pantyhose

Stockings are way more elegant, the hold ups are thicker and the elastic is bothersome. The stockings use lingerie outfits, and anyone that thinks they are out of style ought to check out a Victoria's secret catalog or a Fredric's catalog. Bustiers and corsets, barter skirts, and garter shorts have never been more popular, and that's in addition to the normal garter belts that come in a million shapes and colors. I wear them everyday, and they are way more comfortable than either pantyhose or hold ups.

Definately with suspenders. Hold ups are too much like pantyhose which I despise. I really like the feel of the garters (suspenders) tugging on my stockings. It is very sensual.

Stockings and garters (suspenders) are the best. Hold ups are too thick like pantyhose, and I don't like the thick elastic tops. Guys seem to be into the garter belt style too. They are way more sheer and slippery to the touch, and super sexy to look at.
I wear them to work everyday, and out at night when I am dressed up. I try to avoid pantyhose(tights) if possible, they are way too constricting.

I sometimes wear hold ups for casual, but when I am dressed up there is nothing like black sheer stockings and a garter belt.
