Metal to me is srtaight better than some Emo music but the best metal band ever is System of a Down

I adore metal (hence my screen name Metal Mom). As for the best metal band, well, there's so many branches to the metal tree, it'd be hard to pick just one. Lets see if I can do a top 3...
1. Black Sabbath - gotta have these guys in any metal conversation. Some of the founding fathers of the metal movement.
2. Metallica - some call them lame now, but even the nay-sayers can't deny the impact they had on the metal scene when they first hit the scene.
3. Guns and Roses - another band that hit it big when they first arrived. They were like a breath of fresh air when metal seemed to be too "cookie cutter".
This could go on and on, but I have to stop somewhere. I look forward to reading all the answers : )

Metal happens to be my favorite genre of music. I love many different genres each for different reasons, but metal seems to have the most allure because of its obscurity and general nonacceptance to mainstream audiences. As for the best band ever... I have to give honor to Black Sabbath and Judas Priest for being two of the first and most influential metal bands still to this day, but I have to say the "best" (way too objective of a word) band is a little-known band called The Lord Weird Slough Feg. They write awesome heavy metal songs with catchy riffs, choruses, and solos with and added influence of folk/Celtic music that gives it a bit of an oddness, but complete uniqueness.

The best metal band is Metallica. Toooo many incredible songs and albums to list.
For early hair metal Scorpions and Def Leppard rule. Def Leppard members were just teenagers when they started out.
