I was in hospital a few weeks ago and met someone who had been given it.
I must admit i am not sure what you are given it for or why.If someone wants to explain it to me i would be most grateful

I have the Freedom of the City of London. Probably thousands have it who are alive today but as far as historically goes it is a massive number. When I received mine I knew of at least 10 other people getting it at around the same time. you'd need to contact the Lord Chamberlain's office but I would imagine that there is data protection issues although they may give you a total.
I'm curious as to why you're interested - most people who find out about me having it don't have a clue what it is or what it's about.

I'm a Freeman of the City of London too, so, with three of us here so far it can't be that rare unless there are some strange forces or organisations at work.

the list would probably be fairly long - the ceremony has been in existence since 1237!!
