Unfortunately, the US doesn't have an Official Language. I am originally from Wisconsin and within the past 3-4 yrs the Mexicans DEMANDED that Spanish became the Official Language of Green Bay as well as the whole State! Where I am from in the State, we also have labels not only in Spanish, but also Hmong. It really pisses me off. I live in another Country and have had to learn the language to be able to know what I am buying and such.

Because the Illegals can't read English, don't ya know. Heck i went to vote at my local elections and had to choose English or Spanish, when I complained that i actually had to choose, I was told if I didn't choose a language that i couldn't vote. So I now have to choose a Language to vote in. Where is the ACLU NOW
I am sure they are protecting the Mexican voter from having to not vote in ENGLISH, what about my rights, I was born here, I have paid my taxes, I have been a great citizen of this country and this is the thanks I get. Vote in Spanish or English anyone?

Yes, a lot of spanish translating going on.
I was proud of the Colorado congressman who was brave to tell the rest of America about Miami. It IS like visiting a 3rd world country!!. It is ugly and dangerous there.
Any or all illegal immigrants can go to the hospitals there and as long as they speak spanish, then they can obtain free open heart surgeries, etc. courtesy of US taxpayers. Its not that doctors should deny help to the sick, its the fact that Latino doctors do not even grumble about the number of indigent cases they handle because they are pleased as punch that all the hispanics are piling in and changing the face of the country.

because we have boarder control problem that people seem to be ignoring... people should learn some English, i mean i don't mean to boast or anything but I'm fluent in French, German, Korean, and Spanish.... and I'm by no means "smart" i just like languages, and I feel confident that if i moved to any of the countries where these languages are spoken, i wouldn't need any special treatment from anyone or the government for that matter. Mexicans Should take some initiative and actually try to do things right, rather than screwing everyone else for there own self worth.

km is the British standard. mph is US. I don't know why would they want to do that, but as a matter of fact, most countries use the km standard.
I was saw a story when US and British scientists were working on a sattelite to be launched. As it was launched into space, it crashed. Reason - use of SI untis are different within the Americans and the British. LOL.
I hope such costly disasters don't happen agian in that manner.

I am 53 years old and am lucky enough of lived in America when it was America. I've been around other than americans all my life, they spoke english, their parents spoke english, we did'nt have two languages to chose from when we called the phone company. If you young people want a change, please start now, do'nt rest on your laurels like your generation before you. If you want America back to right is right country, stand up now against all those who have let America go to hell. Their are people who wait for years and years to come into America and are being ignored for the sake of the convience of not spending the money to keep the illegals in their country, what I don't understand is the gov. was able to round up several thousand native indians and out them on a death walk to git rid of them, but the gov. is to stupid to catch criminals that are in their face and in their houses, on the streets protesting for rights they have no right to have. You go Government, you just need a few more years and "AMERICA " will be dead.

Because we have a segment in society who believes their language and culture is far superior to what America has embraced for the last 230 years.
What I find amazing is that no concessions similar to the ones made now for the Hispanic population were ever made for previous immigrants joining American society.
Perhaps - we are all just holding them to a lower standard-
maybe they are just holding themselves to a lower standard-surely they are as capable as :
the Chinese, Russian,African,German,French and all those other little countries represented within our borders at assimilating without special instruction.

I hate calling places and hearing Press 1 for English Press 2 for Spanish. A woman called my work and didnt speak English well, she spoke Spanish, and was actually angry that no one here spoke Spanish.
English should be our official language. I really really hate seeing signs in Spanish.

Scary, ain't it?
I agree with the first answerer, it's because we don't have an official language.
Is it really bad, the signs and labels in Spanish? I've only seen a few in the commisary here...haven't been in the States in almost two years.
