Past due! The term 'United Kingdom' is now very much a misnomer. Just ask the Welsh and even more so, the Scots. They all have their own ideas about their own 'countries.' They definitely rather stay out than in the UK, even if they could have financial difficulties initially. Time this sham 'United Kingdom' thing was ended and pointless to carry on living a big lie. I do believe several independent countries evolving through the breakup of the UK will happen. Even the English, if they are honest, would welcome the breakup and not just because of saving billions of pounds which currently have to be given to subsidise the 'others.' Lets face it, the English are very different from the Scots, and the Scots the Welsh and so on. Further more, the historical reasons that led to the 'creation' of the UK in the days of yore wouldn't hold in today's world.

If the UK split up it would make no difference to England economically.
But the Welsh and NI do wish to stay so they are very welcome.
Think about it.
England population 50 million and rising.
Scotland population 5 million and falling.
Wales population 2.75 million.
NI. 1.75 million.
The history of Britain would just have another page, the union of the thrones was not that long ago, they could have Alex Salmond as their President.
One thing I would request (insist on) in the divorce contract is that the Scottish must stop winging forever in England or be deported and only whinge when they are in Scotland.
The second is to take Bliar, Brown, Reid, Cameron with them.

I'm Welsh and I don't think so.
I don't see how it would benefit Wales. In fact, as a Welsh person who doesn't speak Welsh (only did a year and a half of it at school) I'd probably have to leave and "emigrate" to England because I wouldn't be able to get a job - I'm sure the new government would lay down laws like "everyone has to be bilingual" etc.
Plus it would be so wrong when different laws affected people and someone living Newport would get different treatment to someone living just over the estuary in Bristol!
I think we should stay as we are and stop quarrelling over crap that happened centuries ago. I have nothing against England at all.

If the Scottish want independence then as far as Im concerned theyre more than welcome to it. It will be interesting seeing them continue to fund their armed forces, international embassies, a foreign policy, a trade policy, free healthcare, free schooling, tuition fee free university education, domestic tourism, a welfare state and develop a new stable currency with the hundreds of millions of pounds deficit they run every year AND find people to still listen to their endless whining perpetually about how they hate the English.
I read the other day that they feel aggrieved because they have become Englands last colony. Well a colony that costs us £3 for ever £1 it makes us is one that we could well do to sever links with in my opinion.
And by the way, unless the entire of Her Majestys Armed Forces defect en masse to this new state the chances of Scotland absconding with any of the UK's oil fields are somewhere between slim and none, and I just heard Slims left town.

The UK will split sometime in the future.
Scotland now has it's own Parliament, and can even create limited taxes. Now the Scots want more freedom!
I doubt the UK will totally split apart, but the people yearn for total freedom from the British.

Does it really matter? As we are all part of the EU and there wouldn't be travel restrictions, borders etc.. Not a great deal would change... any Taxes presently spread around via central government would be done by the EU instead. So.. let's not and lets all just get on with each other, whilst keeping our regional and historical differences.

The UK is split up already - Wales, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland.
England even has its own football team for the World Cup.

Alot of history indeed! After all; if it wasn't for the U.K. The United States would not exist! I would not like to see our mother country divided! They are our allies and have helped us tremedously throughout the years. A divided U.K. could mean trouble for us and the rest of the world.

No, it shouldn't be. Although it's not worth arguing over if Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales or Cornwall want to go it alone.
Seems a bit pointless now though, we'll all be absorbed into Europe soon anyway.
