Favorite book: David Copperfield
Favorite author: Charles Dickens
Dickens wrote in a way that truly puts you into the life and times that he wrote about. He also wrote with compassion and concern. His books are about the struggles that real people experienced just to survive during the 1800s in England.
David Copperfield begins as an autobiography and changes to a fictional story. It is very close to how most people view their lives. What if this had happened and if I had done that, wouldn't that be grand?

The answer to that question changes almost every month!!!
But right now I'd say my favorite book is "Justin Thyme" by Panama Oxridge. Although it is aimed at children, if its reviews are anything to go by, it has a crossover adult appeal too, (which I can certainly vouch for).
It's a modern sci-fi/fantasy set in Scotland. The main character is a self-made teen billionaire who builds his own time machine. The chapters are interspersed with theories of time and paradoxes of time travel which are fascinating too. Lots of fun, but scientifically sound too.
I can honestly say that it's the first book since the last Harry Potter that the ENTIRE family have been talking about; all of us enjoying it equally ... (although I have to admit to sneaking it out of my kids' room to finish it, as I ended up being too impatient to limit myself to just one chapter a night at their bedtime!)
