For any overseas tour, a Vice Captain is appointed. Virendra Shewas has been appointed as Vice Captain of Indian Team. In the absence of regular Captain, Vice Captain will lead the team.
This is the simple logic why Virendra Shewag is leading the Indian Team in the absence of Rahul Dravid

Instead of dropping the player for his non-performance,we make him caption thereby endorsing the view that no matterhow bad u play your position is safe. I do not think by inducting laxman, we can see an improvement. Instead of laxman, Uthapa who could be better replacement for Dravid. However, due to politics in India, Ganguli, will be kept out.
