Well, yes, obviously it was insulting. However, it was also fear, in that the current Government really do feel that the SNP are increasing their vote, why attach them so viciously if this is not the case.
You want to insult tham back, vote SNP, big time, all over Scotland, then vote again for a separate Parliment, without heed to the English.
Now that will really piss them off.

Instead of reverting to the usual pathetic English/Scots abuse why don't some of you comprehend and answer the question. The reason why New Labour's 'big guns' were in Oban to slag of the SNP is because at last even the Scots are waking up to New Labour and what a disaster they are. They(New Labour) are afraid the SNP are growing in popularity and will damage their share of the vote.
I think a lot of people in Scotland do find it insulting and hopefully it will backfire.

Do you realise that in a recent poll more English people wanted the Scots to have independenence than the Scots wanted it themselves! It was 59% versus 51%.
I say get your damn independance because the whining must stop. I just pity your prospects when North Sea Oil runs out. You'll find your living standards fall pretty quickly after that.
Edit:
Yep that's a good point. Okay so you've got plenty of water and some oil. Do you think that will offset the money that English tax payers send up north to pay for universal social care for the elderly and free student tuition? I'm all for Scottish independance if we can come to some arrangement over natural resources. A lot of English money has gone into developing those oil fields.

I am happy for the Scots to run their own parliament and have Independence as Scotland is irrelevant for England just so long as it is not with English taxpayers money.
England population 50 million and rising.
Scotland population 5 million and falling and they have the audacity to compare themselves with England (50 million) as a nation.
Another little fringe European country searching for lost identity.

What is wrong with you lot who keep asking these questions. England and Scotland were united when James 5th of Scotland bacame James1st of England. As to the Mid Lothian Question, What could be more Scotish than Cameron and more English than Brown.
