I agree, most won't just leave it alone and move forward and improve their lives. They dwell on the past. Some think that because of what happened hundreds of years, that everyone owes them something.

Performers and artists who use the N word are not supported by me!!! They think it makes them look "cool", but really all it is doing is making them look ignorant and uneducated and giving the whole African-American community a bad look. And what is worst is that we accept this and let our children listen to that crap and like you said "keep it alive". I still don't understand why it is acceptable for African-Americans to call each other the n word, but if some one outside of the race calls them that then it's such a big freakin deal. We are keeping ourselves oppressed by accepting this and we are disrespecting ourselves and ancestors by saying it.

This question has frequented Yahoo! Answers a lot lately--while I personally cannot account for everyone else's use or 'misuse' of the word, there is much to be said about the knowledge on the subject--the more we know about somethings origin, the more we may understand it; perhaps it is worth being studied and analyzed rather than to just cast blame from race to race for it's unusually advanced lifetime in the vast lexicon of our language...
Every word has it's own etymology--regardless of who uses it more, it's negativity affects all...

The N word was common and accepted when I was a kid. It is hard to change old habits. You here the N word in the malls, walking down the street, at work. Blacks call blacks the N word all of the time. It is hard to teach our children not to say the N word when they here it everywhere.

I hear ya. That's like cows, I'm sorry, I mean bovine-americans don't like when members of another species use the M word, yet they call each other that all the damn time! You know the word, they say it all the time.

You make an excellent point. I believe that all groups need to clean house every now and then. Maybe it's time for the African Americans?

When artist use the'' n'' word in songs, they do not say '' n*gger they say n*gga.
and they don't refer to it as a racist slur. the word has and never will go away regardless of how many say it, blACK OR WHITE. its like.. '' what up my n*gga'', not ...what up, n*gger.''
