Tiruvalluvar is the author of the "Kural," a classic of Tamil literature. You can dip into it almost anywhere and find in its long series of short lines distilled wisdom about many aspects of life. I will give his version of the English saying, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do". He writes euphoniously, "Evvathuraivudu ulagam avvaduraivathu arivu".
