More than likely there is already a folder with that name there. But it may be hidden. go to folder options in control panel and go the view tab and select to show hidden files and folders then check your desktop. Otherwise you could try spelling it differently or you may even be under a limited account where the admin has set the permission levels to not allow for folder creation.

For the same reason you can not create one named "lpt" or "dir" or a lot of other names. They are "reserved words", meaning they have a special use in DOS. "Con" is the command that sends output to the console (which on a modern computer would be your monitor). If you were to use "con" as a folder name, and then attempt to access it in DOS, the folder name would be interpreted as the "con" command and could crash the PC and possibly cause data loss or even damage your Windows install. So to protect you, Windows does not allow the use of reseverd words as foldr or file names.

There is no reason. You can actually do it. Go to te command prompt and type mkdir con \a and you will get the folder there. Then how to delete it? Well I guess you can figure it out, if not then ask another question ...:)

There might be a hidden file or folder with the same name. Try putting an underscore "_" above it so it looks like a folder named "con_"
