You are right! My daughter is a tribal member and her tribe doesn't celebrate Columbus day- they just tack on an extra day of festivities during the Fourth of July (Chief Taholah Days). However, as far as a National American Indian holiday? There should be some!!

In America we have Martin Luther King Day and African American Heritage Week. Thanksgiving is a Native American holiday which commerates the pilgrims, Native Americans and Christopher Columbus. We celebrate the day christopher collumbas came and killed the native americans and stole thier land. We also celebrate cinco de mayo for Mexico, St Patricks day for Irish, and allow Native American Pow Wows. Native Americans can live tax free on Indian reservations. We have tried to cater to the needs of everyone.

Don't know Columbus about being a murderer and rapist himself but the flood gates opened wide for the rest to come and exploit the natives. As to your first question...GREAT QUESTION maybe YOU can start a movement to promote just that. There's plenty of people that would be very interested in that.

Because the Americans don't know anything from native american cultures.
And I have to agree with you on Columbus.

there are native traditions and celebrations, but that's it. i am part native and am sickened by the way the natives were treated in the 17 and 18 and 1900's. it's a shame. big guy picks on the little guy. they had no right to do what they did to the natives.

Just because your people arrived in America a few years earlier then any one else doesn't mean you own the whole place. Get off your high horse.
Although I do admit the Americans did treat you pretty badly so you have a right to be a little angry about that. But don't let that anger consume you.

Just curious what type of holidays did you have in mind? Would all the tribes nationally agree on these holidays?
