Some people here seem to be assuming that a majority of the people entering the UK are illegal immigrants. Most of these people entering are from the new EU countries (i.e some of the old soviet block) and are therefore legal immigrants.

It has been well documented that these immigrants, have actually kept inflation down and so in turn have kept UK economic targets on track, they are actually helping the UK economy.

I currently live with 4 people from Poland, a German and an Italian all of them are hard working, all of them are nice people and all of them respect UK traditions. The minority that the 'right-wing' press pick up on, are exactly that - a minority!

Although I'm the first to admit that the shortage of homes is a problem - easy answer, build more.

Probably somewhere in your lineage is a person who came here from somewhere else. Take a look around, notice how America has many different peoples and many different cultures. Through the passage of time, you came along and became American. There is nothing wrong with coming to this country LEGALLY to become an American citizen. It's the people who come here illegally that are doing us damage. Our government allows it so the average wage in America slowly slides downward. It's good for business owners. It kills the rest of us and our country.

Well I'm kinda a foreigner. Born and brought up overseas but a British Citizen. I've never claimed anything or requested council housing. As for jobs, there are so many lazy brits who would rather be on the dole or don't want to do dirty jobs that we've made it easy for immigrants to get jobs. I don;t think you should be able to claim benefits unless you've worked here legally for many years and are physically incapable of working, even in a unskilled job.

Because they will do your job at half price so the politicians can say the UK inflation is low and Gordon Brown can claim to be successful in managing the UK economy.
By the time he is caught in the lie he will be out of power living on a fat pension he awarded himself and someone else will have to sort out the mess he made by raising taxes.
Its called economics and politics.

Amen to that!! We need to take care of our own before we try to take care of every one else! We have families sleeping in cardboard boxes while we are helping others try to survive. Just once I would love to see our doors closed. In the eighties I witnessed Vietnamese refuges applying for Social Security benefits! These people didn't even speak English! I've always wondered whose pocket their benefits came out of! I'm not against aide to others, only aide to others at our expense.
