Writing in a diary is a good way to express your feelings. You shouldn't stop but maybe you could start writing about more of the high times in your life combined with a few bad things. Looking back on the diary is also a good thing to, you can learn from your mistakes.

there's a purpose to writing a diary, which is to clear out your brain and get thoughts down and see things a bit clearer. So it is quite helpful to write things down and empty your head of it all. However, reading it back isn't helpful at all and can stir up unpleasant feelings and memories.
I'd stop keeping a diary but, instead, write down on a sheet of paper your innermost thoughts until you feel better. Then destroy the sheet of paper each day.
There is nothing good that comes from dredging up old and unpleasant memories and there is no value to keeping them.

yeah me too! I've kept a dairy for 3 or so years and i used to feel low every time i read it, so what i do now is write good things that happen, things I'll laugh about, don't stop keeping a diary as its something that you'll love to read later on in life!

I used to write a jounal from the age of 12-18. I stopped because i was going througha horrible time with my boyfreind and writing the events after experiencing them just made me feel worse. Now, id rather just live my life and froget things i dont want to remeber. I did read back tho, and it brought back the low feelings i had then. So the journal is locked away. :)

Keep writing. If you're feeling low reading back, then it could be of two things. First that you think "What a useless **** I was"... that's normal enough... my diary was full of inane crap in my teens. Second reason could be the thought of "nothing's changed". You can, then, at least take action, knowing your diary has identified a negative pattern. So make the change

For years and years I kept a journal and one time I read it and I know exactly how you feel. I was not making a life, I was repeating the same old mistake's, so I changed . Stopping writing is not going to change the situation, you have to change it

If you write in your diary like you write your question then I can see why you feel down when you read it. Its because you cant understand what you have written! You need to write a diary in plain english and not like you a sending a txt on your mobile.

I used to have one. I didn't read it until all those problems were over and i was in a happy place. Keep writing or you'll perhaps forget what sort of person that you were.
