My doctor says these polyps occur in maybe one in five women and are most always safe to wait and watch-like skin tags-He said he doesn't know of any studies to find if they would just go away on their own. I wonder why they put us thru surgery then. Any one know more than I do here ?

If they are not causing a problem, there is no need to have surgery for them as they are benign. While it is true that a polyp in the colon is often a forerunner of cancer, cervical cancer generally does not begin this way and is in almost all cases caused by human papilloma virus which does NOT cause polyps. The reason to watch and wait is to make sure the polyps don't grow so large that they cause problems with intercourse or bleeding. Here is some info: http://www.mamashealth.com/women/cerpoly.asp
