Why do you think it took stylists so long to make things so minimal?

I think Stylists/Designers/Artists etc. choose their style or approach to making things. Minimalism (rooted in Modernism) has been around since the late 1800s. So if it seems that a particular Stylist has taken a long time to "make things minimal" it is their choice or lack of historical knowledge.
