Becuase of a condition that my baby has, I will have to deliver by C-section. I really have issues with being concious while someone is cutting my stomach open. I think it would just make me panic. Has anyone ever been able to request that they be put completely asleep for this reason?

I have had a c-section and was not out at the time, I was a little paniced at the time but I was perfectly fine once it started.

I think you can ask the doctor to put you out, tell him how you think you will might freak out during it and he might do it for you.

I hope you dont, its a really nice thing to see your baby when it is first born.

You might try asking him for a seditive to help calm you before he does anything. It shouldn't hurt the baby at all.

Dont worry, when you have the C-section you WILL NOT be able to feel a thing. You will feel a little presser but NO pain.

I guess it boils down to personal choice, you seem to be very concerned about it and scared already so if I was you I would request to be put out completely, but this does have an affect on the baby as with any drugs or anesthetic given during pregnancy.
Although I had my son naturally I had made it quite clear with my midwife if I needed a c-section then I was to be put out completely.
It is your choice, but if you do chose to stay awake you wont see anything, your partner can be gowned up and be in there with you up by your head, you or him, unless he wanted to wont see anything, and you wont feel anything either, they will look after you and if at any point you feel bad then they can help you.
Good Luck and best wishes for your little one coming into the world, enjoy they soon grow, make every moment count.

I also have had 2 c-sections. The first one I was put out by no choice of my own. The second one however, I was awake for. I wish I had been able to be awake for the first one. The feelings that overwhelm you when you hear your baby cry is priceless. If you really do not want to be awake, talk to your doctor. He/She may agree to put you out.
Good luck!

I have had 2 c-sections. One awake and one asleep. I really felt bad after the first one when I was asleep. I felt like it was all my fault. I didnt think I was much of a woman when I couldnt have it naturally. The second one I was awake. I didnt see them cut me open though. They drape you. It was really the most rewarding time of my life. Dont miss it.

honestly i dont think the doctor would do it as its more of a risk to you - which i not a good thing, i think he would do his best to rationalise your fears and maybe have something else to focus on. I have never heard on anyone being put to sleep by request (and im sure some movie stars would do it if they could!!!)
well the only way to find out is to ask!!!

If they were to put you out, the anesthesia would effect your baby as well, and could compromise your baby's health. It is not recommended for that very reason.

Also, I agree that you will not want to miss the moment you first hear your son/daughter cry, and you will not want to miss seeing him/her when they hold him/her up and show you your baby!

Yes he can put you completly out. There is no reason to panis though, they put a drape up in front of you so you can not see any thing. All you feel is pushing and pulling on your body.(when you have a spinal done)

I honestly don't think they do that anymore. I think the only option you have is epidural. Though I would prefer anesthesia. I had a c-set with my son and felt groggy but fine afterwords.
