Indo China as it was called then was a source of oil which Japan desperately needed because of the United States oil embargo. Additionally, Indo China was a French colony it was ruled by the Vichy Regime which was controlled by the Nazis, Japan's ally. So they thought it would be an easy conquest and they were right.
In some cases the Vietnamese were pleased to be "liberated" by the Japanese. However, it did not take them long to realize they had traded one colonial power for another.

The Pacific War had begun with the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, an attempt by Imperial Japan to destroy the US Pacific Fleet and pave the way for Japanese domination of East Asia and the Pacific. The event had brought the United States into the Second World War and even though the focus of Allied attention had been the defeat of Nazi Germany, the Allies had still committed substantial forces to fighting the Japanese attempt at expanding their Co-Prosperity Sphere. By the late summer of 1945, these forces had managed to battle their way to the very doorstep of Japan itself, despite substantial Japanese garrisons remaining in Southeast Asia, China, Korea, Manchuria and Taiwan. They now contemplated the prospect of having to invade the Japanese Home Islands themselves in order to bring the war to an end. In August however, two atomic weapons became available as part of the Manhattan Project that had begun in June 1942 under the leadership of General Leslie R Groves of the US Army Corps of Engineers. History records that two devices were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki that promptly resulted in the Japanese suing for peace. But what if the Manhattan Project had been delayed, failed, or stuck at a critical point? One alternative open to Allied planners was a conventional invasion of the Japanese Home Islands.

For the first part of your question (why did Japan attack Indocina?):

Franco-Japanese Border War (Sept. 22, 1940-Sept. 24, 1940)--Soon after France fell to Germany, Japan sought passage through French Indochina in order to attack Nationalist Chinese forces near the border. French authorities in Hanoi refused, prompting Japan to launch a ground attack on the French border forts at Long-Son and Dong-Dang. Two days later, Japanese aircraft bombed the port city of Haiphong and the Japanese navy landed troops at the port. During the two days of fighting, nearly 800 French troops were killed.

..and for the second part, the Vietnamese weren't liberated by the French (the French already occupied Vietnam as a colony before WWII). In fact, the resistance was both to Japanese and French occupation :

Viet Minh Resistance to Japanese Occupation (1944-1945)-- In late 1944, the Vietnamese Communists, led by Ho Chi Minh and Vo Nguyen Giap, initiated a resistance movement against the Japanese. The Viet Minh (Vietnamese abbreviation for " League of the Revolution and Independence of Vietnam") sought independence from both Japan and France.

This evolved into the conflict between Fench and Vietnamese forces, culminating in the French defeat at Dien Ben Phu in 1954.

Deserve, who and how does one "deserve" being nuked. Japan "attacked" Pearl Harbor, which presented the U. S. into the conflict. What we call WW2 became already being fought and the jap were battling for about 13 years already, in view that 1928. Pearl Harbor became purely the starting up of the conflict for the human beings. the reason Pearl Harbor performs a particular bearing, with the exception of the attack is that Japan attacked with out issuing an announcement of conflict first. Japan had entered talks with the U. S. on ending the conflict by ability of an armistice and making concessions, or another kind of treaty reached by a negotiated contract. FDR had stated that the purely answer to Japan's attacks became the unconditional resign of Japan. It became a pledge to the yankee human beings and the will of the yankee human beings. Japan became prepared to strive against to the demise, and getting waiting the human beings of Japan for such an adventure. in the course of the conflict of Okinawa it grew to develop into very glaring that although Japan became beaten they were no longer defeated and that it became going to fee the united states dearly for each inch of floor. Germany were bombed, fought, and beaten into submission. The once proud Germans spirit became damaged. Japan became no longer yet beaten. Japan were in contact with the united states and became attempting to locate or make a contract that would want to end hostilities. Japan were recommended about a sparkling awful weapon and that if Japan did not resign it will be used and Japan will be bombed into extinction. Japan insisted upon a contract, the bomb became dropped upon Hiroshima, again Japan became requested to provide up, and again no answer became given. A bomb became dropped upon Nagasaki. Japan might want to have prevented the bombs. Had Japan surrendered after Okinawa then the bombs does no longer were dropped. Had Japan surrendered after the first bomb the 2d does no longer were dropped. Deserve or no longer. perchance even as thinking what the jap did to the chinese between 1928-1945 they did defintley earn it. It got here about, and it became a valid determination.

The Japanese invaded just about everyone in east and south Asia. They were "imperialists." They tried to take over their part of the world by force.

The Japanese were brutal occupiers. They killed just to keep their captives in line. The French were lovers. No one favored the Japanese over the French.
