I wish to be emancipated next summer and have been trying to research on the subject but have very little results. I wanted to know a good site for Emancipation in Pennsylvania. Things such as, the standards for emancipation, what you must do, etc. Hopefully you have more luck than me.

You should contact a PA attorney or a legal services organization. Look at the sites I listed in the source area.

"Most people think someone less than 18 can just go to court and get emancipated. But in Pennsylvania, emancipation is not a right, and there are no clear procedures to get a declaration of emancipation from a court. However, rarely is such a declaration necessary for a minor to achieve his or her goal.

Certain actions automatically result in a minor becoming emancipated--these include marriage or entry into the military. However, a minor usually wants to be declared emancipated to get a specific benefit or service. Government agencies usually have the authority to decide if a minor is emancipated, to authorize the benefit or service they administer. Therefore, it is usually not necessary for a minor to go to court to be declared emancipated."

I have done a lot of research in this area in the past year. I'm sure it varys from county to county. But in columbia county, legal services won't help you. If its a serious matter where you are in fear of your well being go to children and youth. however, basically you need to petition the court and need to prove you can support yourself without any accomadation from your parents. Most Judges will look at the fact on Where are you going to live, is it more stable than your current situation?, Are you in school? do you work to support yourself? Unfortunatly if your not in fear for your health stick it out until your 18. It will be a lost cause in PA

Regardless of the information you find, you will need a lawyer to handle the paperwork and court situations that will be involved. You generally have to prove that you can support yourself, stay in school, and can be responsible for yourself in all ways. Call Legal Aid or a local family lawyer.

You didn't say how old you are, that's usually a factor, along with a genuine reason for the petition. Find a pro bono lawyer or go to legal aid.
