Nativity scenes in public places. Christmas trees. Eating too many roast potatoes than a) is good for you and b) you ever thought possible. Huge dark evil looking Christmas cakes with spiky icing. Piles of wrapping paper hiding half your presents (and optionally the family's cat/dog/youngest member) . Watching the Queens Speech with either a very full or very empty tummy depending on whether we've decided to eat our Christmas meal at lunchtime or teatime. Family. Brussels Sprouts. The combined smell of old christmas decorations and fresh pine needles.

The Christmas tree all decorated with presents under it. The mass of street lights that are being put up in early autumn for christmas, the tonnes of chocolate that fills the shelves and the christmas music that is being played to early. Yule logs, turkey dinners (my mum's is fab), stockings, Jesus and the nativity stuff. Thinking about it, I can also remember doing the Christingle thing with the oranges with a candle and sweets stuck in it, which we would light in church for the school clebrations- bless me I forgot about my orange and it went mouldy, ha ha ha...

the nativity scene, the star of David, i wasn't raised religiously but the meaning of Christmas and Easter was pounded into my head.

right now, i have two daughters and at one time i did associate all those things as Christmas but as i got older and had children (around age 30) i realized how important religion is, especially to children and how important it is for them to have a Strong belief in something that later in life they can fall back on during hard times. many people knock religion but religion is what keeps kids at home and off drugs and stops teen pregnancy. please don't take this as me pushing my religion, I'm just stating my beliefs. my beliefs are heard louder at Christmas time because i feel it's a holy time.

at one time i loved Christmas trees and their decorations in pastels like pinks and purples. i don't know why but now my idea of Christmas is the traditional red, white, and green. i was raised traditionally and now I'm trying to do that with my kids. in my opinion, i really feel the true meaning of Christmas is taking a back seat. no offense to you or anyone else in their beliefs.

MY POINT, AFTER ALL OF THIS, IS THAT CHRISTMAS MEANS DIFFERENT THINGS TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AT DIFFERENT STAGES IN THEIR LIVES.

Merry Christmas!

Neighborhoods decorated with Christmas lights, blankets of fresh snow on the ground, my kids with their noses against the glass of the car as we drive by. "They are ready for Santa!" they whisper.
