Because most offices have a very structured appointment plan. Put yourself in their position...you have 5 customers scheduled for a days work...you are counting on 5 checks at the end of the day...1 doesn't show up and you don't have time to fill the spot your out some time and money. A doctors time however is no more precious than yours..I would let the office staff and the doctor know how disappointed you are that you have an extreme wait. I always schedule my appointments first thing in the morning when they are slower and haven't had time to get behind for the day.

This is the disadvantage of a free at the point of use NHS service.
We should charge a appointment fee say £10.00 at time of booking the appointment. Then people would turn up to appointments. The money from this could be used to ensure that
people with important ailments can be seen 24/7 and those with
minor conditions seen first by a nurse. I believe a well qualified nurse could handle 80% of doctors workloads.

Ring them, make a crawling apology. They may be annoyed with you at first - our surgery has a scrolling board saying how many appointments were missed in the preceding week and what an effect this has on the practice. They will be bound, however, to give you another appointment - I think one missed is hardly grounds for them striking you off their list. And, oh yes - either invest in an alarm clock or ask them for afternoon appointments!

I know this is the same answer repeated many times, but it's 2 points. Ring up, explain to them what happened, apologise and request another appointment. If they sound a bit harsh with you, don't retaliate, simply remain calm and polite. If you don't feel you are well enough to weight for your next appointment, ask for information regarding the nearest walk in centre as they will see you without an appointment. If you don't want to ask the receptionist for information about the walk in centre, simple log onto the local NHS Trust Website and you will find information there or call the NHS Direct Line 0845 4647.

Get well soon.

You should phone them and explain. They will give you another appointment because they have to. If you are a repeat non attender they can remove you from their list but would write to to inform you of this and you would have to register at another GP practice. They may be a bit annoyed and will probably tell you in future if you can't make it to cancel after all you have prevented someone else from being seen. I know you slept in, it happens but most Dr's tell the office staff to be firm.

No need to ring unless you want to speed up the process. They normally send you a letter out with an appointment time to visit next and a nice BOLDED paragraph saying You're fined! Normally around £10-15 for wasting the docs time.

Yes if you wish to see this particular doctor, you need to call them for they will not call you.....you can only imagine how many appointments are scheduled and then never kept.

Usually most doctors offices will let you reshedule unless you have done this a number of times(which some offices do limit).

You must realize that you are not the only one wishing to see the doctor, so value their time as they do yours.

Yes, phone them. See if you can set up another appointment. You won't know if you can unless you try.

I think they'll understand. You may still have to pay for the missed appointment, tho. Different places have different rules.

Of course you should phone and apologise .... where are your manners??? tut tut! If you explain that you have been feeling so unwell that you failed to wake for your appt...embelish it a little...sure they will understand...the reason staff at docs get so cross about missed appts is cos they get so much hassle from ppl who want an appt that is booked to you...then you fail to attend and don;'t let em know prior to it....hey, you are only human but do the decent thing and call....and yeah you will get another appt...just set your alarm next time...hope you feel betta soon
