Ok, listen up. The easiest way is to buy a cheap drum machine that has presets, or pre-made loops. For example, I first started out on the Roland D2 groovebox. The good news: you can easily create songs. The bad news: They will not really be your own, because you did not create them from scratch. Do you plan on selling your music? If yes, you will need to make sure that what you use is not copyrighted, if no, don't worry about it. If you have musical talent, you can truly create music that is your own style. The next thing you need is a recording device, such as a tape recorder, comupter, digital recorder etc. Play the already made loops in a fashion you like, and at the same time, record what you are doing into your device and Presto! You got your own techno music. Mac or PC does not matter, you can record with both. Programs that can record: Protools, Cubase, Reason, Sound Forge, Acid, Logic, Cakewalk, Live. They are different in their own ways, but they are all multitrack recording environments. What type of techno? Jungle, Trance, house, garage, Drum n Bass, Trip hop, Minimal, NRG, breakbeat? Certain programs cater to certain styles. Do you have a computer? How much do you want to spend? If you want to simply make something to call your own, I would suggest getting downloading some free demo software from online. If you are serious about making professional grade electronic music, you are gonna need the sounds of the genre you like, as well as the equipment to make it (i.e. synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, etc.) A local studio could probably assist you in your efforts as well. Luckily, you don't need to be musically inclined to make techno, but it helps.
