The trouble with what's in the media is that it's often contradictory; one moment someone will say that something's good for you, then a few days later some clever dick will say that it's not. People end up confused, not knowing who or what to believe.
To increase consumer awareness, I'd say there should be emphasis on the benefits of keeping oneself healthy (and on the possible outcomes of indulging in bad habits), rather than ramming "See this stuff- it's good / bad for you"-type adverts and messages down peoples' throats.
