I think that all emotions are very imp in life. It tells u how to react to different situations. In regard to love, it teaches a person to care, it teaches him humility and the art of sacrificing for others. With love, there are no boundaries, a person can soar as high as he wishes too. Because love is the only feeling that can assign importance without any reason.
Seriously speaking, our ever present concern for self is so powerful and overbearing that we perhaps get tired of it..... and then love provides the perfect escapade or intoxication, that too well sweetened by a positive feeling of elation. Those who have not experienced it are indeed unfortunate.

This in turn benefits the society.
For example, a researcher looking for a cure of a disease will work extra hard, and put in over time, if they've lost someone they've loved, or someone they love is suffereing from that disease.
It also just makes the lover feel better about life.

It's what we were made to do. Even if a person is dirt poor, there is always something he can give, and always something he can treasure if he has love for others and someone loves him, too. I mean, the only reason we're here in the first place is because of love.
