HB = Hard, Black. It's the same as a #2 pencil so called due to the hardness of the graphite.

HB is a standard hardness in pencils, next in hardness is F (fine) then varying degrees in H (hard) from 2H to 6H, 6H being the hardest (for draftsmen, very little smudging and a crisp line).
After HB the softer lead is B, then softer still from 2B to 9B, 9B being the very softest - thick soft line and very blendable for sketching.

“H” (for hardness) “B” (for blackness) the scale ranges from the hardest (lightest) 9H to the blackest (softest) 9B as well as “F” (for fine point). Also here are the number equivalents: #1=B, #2=HB, #3=H, #4=2H.
